Preliminary hearing for Bonner County murder rescheduled | North Idaho News

A Spokane man's preliminary hearing for the death of a Bonner County man has been postponed to 9 am Mar. 17.

The postponement allows more time for the defense to obtain discovery material in the case.

Neal Aaron Mouser is charged with first-degree murder in the case of Brandon Vern Hurst who was found dead at the bottom of a steep embankment just off of Caribou Creek Road.

Mouser is accused of lying in wait and ambushing Hurst on Nov. 21, 2020.

28-yar-old Cantrip Velite Gatens allegedly lured Hurst by claiming she was having mechanical problems with her vehicle. Gatens is charged with first-degree murder.

62-year-old Scott Thomas Kachel is accused of removing Hurst's body from the crime scene and dumping it down the embankment. He is charged with being an accessory to the slaying.

Preliminary hearings for Gatens and Kachel are scheduled for Mar. 3.

Mouser is being held in the Bonner County Jail on a $1 million bail, Gatens is held on a $750,000 bail, and Kachel is free on a $50,000 bail.
