Murder suspect released on reduced bail | North Idaho News

Scott Thomas Kachel, implicated in the murder of Brandon Vern Hurst, was released on a reduced bond, according to the Bonner County Daily Bee.

62-year-old Kachel is accused of removing the body from the scene and dumping it down an embankment on Caribou Creek Road. 59-year-old Neal Mouser of Spokane is accused of shooting Hurst on Nov. 21, 2020.

Kachel's bond was set at $250,000 but was reduced to $50,000 after the state and defense filed a joint motion, claiming he is a longtime resident with significant ties to the community.

Kachel posted a property bond to secure his release, according to court documents.

Preliminary hearings for the case against Kachel are set for Mar. 3. Mouser's cases are scheduled for Feb. 10.
