Studying broadcast news and political science at one of the Top 50 Journalism Programs in the U.S. - College Media Matters

John Webb is a student at the University of Idaho getting his Bachelors in Broadcasting and Digital Media with a minor in Political Science.

Webb first found his passion for broadcast news when he was offered an internship at a local radio station, KWAL. Throughout the summer of 2016, Webb learned the ins-and-outs of radio news.

After much practice and dedication, Webb was hired as a part-time news reporter. During his Sophomore year of high school, he reported on some of the Silver Valley's most interesting stories including the McConnell Hotel Fire, the Lionel Harding-Thomas disappearance, and of course other small local stories too.

The following summer, the freshman reporter was hired as news and weather anchor, becoming the station's youngest on-air personality. From there, he later expanded his role to Program Manager and Mining and Money Host.

As just a junior in high school, he launched a local TV channel. Webb then began teaching students how to produce news reports at Wallace Jr/Sr High School. Later on, the class began producing full-length community newscasts and running 24 hours of television.

During John's time on Channel 3, he broadcasted from President Trump's rally in Missoula at just 17-years-old, interviewed the top 5 candidates for the Idaho Gubernatorial race, and sat as a panelist for the Superintendant of Idaho Public Instruction Debate. Webb later interviewed current Governor, Brad Little, and Paulette Jordan during the general election.

Throughout the years in Wallace, he received Excellence in Broadcast News Production three years straight. He also was nominated and awarded the Silver Valley Volunteer of the Year award, followed by the Dr. Riggs Leadership Award.

He later won 1st place Idaho Press Club Public Affairs Program, 2nd place Idaho Press Club Election Report, and 2nd place Idaho Press Club Light Feature.

Webb currently anchors newscasts for Pullman Radio News and interns at KHQ-TV. He can be reached on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
